Hi Chris!

I like the idea for sure, that is pretty cheap considering everything you get, especially for 36 months. One question though, I am not sure how they can legally claim, "Non-OEM accessories and modifications void coverage." Courts have clarified this over and over again, according to the Magnuson - Moss Warranty Act The federal minimum standards for full warranties are waived if the warrantor can show that the problem associated with a warranted consumer product was caused by damage while in the possession of the consumer, or by unreasonable use, including a failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance.

Merely installing an aftermarket device on a vehicle in no way shows that a problem was caused by the device.

Are you familiar with this? Again this is a very minor concern and just wanted your opinion as someone with a lot of experience in the industry.

THANKS!

Yes I have a good of experience with this at least on the ORV side of this program... Overall common sense is king. I am not a legal expert and I do know that laws are different in every state, but basically in the past claims become a problem when an element of the machine is modified in a way that alters the original engineering of that vehicle.

To give examples in terms of a Polaris RZR.

1. a customer purchases an aftermarket roof and then has an engine problem... this clearly unrelated and in my experience never been a problem.

2. A customer installs a turbo kit and turns a 108hp rzr in a 190hp rzr, he then blows up an engine... Polaris would then not cover this because they would say we didn’t engineer the product to do that and cant be responsible for the failure, which in my opinion is common sense.

3. Customer installs a 2 inch lift kit and throws on some giant mud tires to go with it, he then experiences a transmission issue. Polaris would not cover this because again by raising the machine and running a larger than stock tire you change the physics of everything possibly leading to the failure of the related component.

4. Now here comes the grey area.... the lift kit and big tires are installed and you now have an engine problem. Situations like this are more of a case by case basis and Polaris is Judge, Jury and Executioner on the decision.

That all being said, I have sold almost 1000 of these to local customers and forum members for various Polaris products over the past 5 years. In all my experiencing selling and processing claims I can only remember a small handful of examples where I thought the customer was in the right and a claim was not able to be approved. If you want to read through a huge amount of discussion about it, below is the link to my large warranty thread on rzrforums. Its 24 pages and several years of posts on the program.

Like I said it really comes down to common sense and also the quality of the service department of your local dealer doing the work. Your dealer is your only voice when fighting with Polaris in a claim and the more work they put into properly presenting the issue goes a long way in the likelihood that things will go your way.

At the beginning of this year Polaris re-vamped this entire program, taking it in house (formerly it was backed by Assurant) and this has made the entire claims process eaiser for dealers because it uses the exact same process and system as factory warranty claims.

The last thing I would like to mention is that we were all shocked on the price... it may be because it is an on road machine vs. off-road but to give you an example the RZR XP1K 5 year warranty (factory warranty + 54 additional months) retails for $2125 and the price tag on that model is slightly lower than a Slingshot.

Extended warranties are not for everyone, but if you’re looking for some extra peace of mind I think there is a lot of good value here especially considering they are fully transferable. Just be aware that any type of modification you do to the machine that alters the mechanical and in some cases the electrical engineering of the machine could result in coverage not getting approved... just use common sense and there won't be any surprises.

hope that helps..

Hi Chris! When you write 999$ for 36 month and 1200$MSRP...this a special you make or is the price of every dealer?

Thanks!
This is a special price that I am extending only to members of the Slingshotforum community... MSRP from Polaris is $1200 and most dealers I would imagine would be selling at this price. Also, if Slingshot works like other Polaris products, you will get a card in the mail after the purchase of your Slingshot offering to sell you the warranty direct from Polaris at MSRP. (if you did not purchase one prior at your local dealer or with me). This is the exact same product servicable at all Polaris Slingshot dealers, The only difference being I sell them a bit cheaper because for 10 minutes worth of paperwork, Im happy to make a few bucks in extra business and offer some savings to members at the same time.

note: (be very careful about 3rd party warranties that dealers will try to push, I don't care if you buy it from me or not... if your going to purchase an ESC it's well worth it to buy the OEM product)

note 2: I'm not sure I can sell these to Canadaian customers, I will need to research this... In the past there have been some weird laws I have to deal with because I'm in the US. It may be priced different as well. I will do some research on that.

No problem at all, it's what I'm here for.

If I sell something to someone under a false impression, it only serves to hurt my business in the long run.

Keep in mind tho, Being part of a family owned business I have more in the game than a normal sales person and that's just how it is... I also have the luxury of not having to worry about what my commission check will be this week to feed my family or make a mortgage payment. That makes a big difference, we are all human.

Any time while it is still under a factory warranty, so 2 years. The only advantage to buying early is you Guarantee that prices for the warranty will not increase during that time.

#20 ·
Yes this works exactly the same way, it can be canceled at anytime for a pro-rated amount less any claims. Also transferable if you happen to sell to a new owner.

#21 ·
Just a reminder that we can get you guys signed up for ESC's as soon as your SS's arrive.... Buy Local, but if the local guy is unreasonable..... I'm happy to be that guy ;)

#22 ·
Just chiming in again as you guys finally start taking delivery, we are offering the Polaris extended warranties at a discount exclusively to forum members.

12 Month addition to factory 2 year warranty...$549 (MSRP $600)
24 Month addition to factory 2 year warranty...$799 (MSRP $900)
36 Month addition to factory 2 year warranty...$999 (MSRP $1200)

#34 ·
Yes fully transferable (Polaris does charge $50 i think to do it).

Pricing extended warranty for Canadians in Quebec, I do not know if it implies for the other provinces. (prices are before tax)

24 Month addition to factory 2 year warranty...$1723 US dollars = $1923 in Canadian dollars

36 Month addition to factory 2 year warranty...$1780 US dollars = $1995 in Canadian dollars

48 Month addition to factory 2 year warranty...$1994 US dollars = $2235 in Canadian dollar

Chris, can you please tell me what is the 2 years warranty that Polaris gives? Is it the first year for everything and the second-year engine and components, can you please explain that to me as if I'm an average Joe

#37 ·
To put it in a nutshell... the factory warranty covers everything both parts and labor for anything considered a manufacturing defect under normal use. Wear items like tires, belts, bushings, ect... are not covered unless a part fails, and then takes them out. The extended warranty is pretty much an extension to that factory warranty with a few small fine print changes and a $50 deductible.

No I'm sorry that I didn't make it super clear... The 24 month warranty in my words is actually called the 48 month warranty (factory 24+24) I just call it a 2 year extended because my customer always got confused when I called it a 4 year but it was actually an additional 2.. If that make sense lol

#42 ·
A reminder that Polaris Extended warranties can be purchased anytime the unit is still under the factory warranty. My pricing will remain the same as long as Polaris does not raise the price they charge me to sell them.

Jim, That really all depends on if your dealer is willing to go up to bat with Polaris on a case. Short answer would be yes, that voids the warranty. Long answer if your dealer is good you should be able to fight for you in the claim report and you should still be covered. hope this helped!
