the majority of the bulbs I bought in the past were from slingmods.

this H3 bulb came with this black box. I can't remember what the box does and if it's really important or not. So slingmods only sells a conversion kit. I don't need an entire conversion kit. I just want to replace this non working bulb. I will probably have to buy a set. I haven't found anything like this on the internet. My question is....is this specific to the slingshot or not? Can I replace it with a similar bulb without the box that just has the red and black wires?

I received them yesterday and from the way the box was smashed up and then finding them just flapping about in the "protective" foam I wasn't sure they would work. Half hour installation and I now have 2 working lights.
@mpj220 excellent suggestion. No issues at all with the installation. Fast and easy, a few new zip ties and good to go.

Remember you have to slide these silver rings off the bulb and insert them under the retention springs on the light housing. They go in just like they are flat against the housing with the square cutout facing toward the ground. Then you just slide the rest of the bulb back into the ring as shown. Hook up the 2 wires slip the rubber cover back on leaving a slight gap away from the fan on the bottom of the bulb. The rubber can not be pressed tight against the fan blades or it will not spin.

When we were growing up packages with the words in red letters like fragile, liquid or glass or handle with care, this end up, do not stack, actually meant something. And we respected it as such. I really sick of getting packages that look like there was a contest to see how damaged a package can get before it's delivered. For what we have to pay to get or ship packages I would expect a little care to be taken to represent the money I paid. Somebody just got a $20,000 raise to damage them. I can't wait to see how this goes.

I gave a review on Amazon about the condition of the package when it was delivered. Amazon used a bubble envelope which didn't offer much protection from being crushed. And to be fair the manufacturer didn't seem too concerned about protecting their product either. They won't print it because they said packaging complaints were another issue. They just want the product reviewed. Well if I'm spending my hard earned money on a multi billion dollar site that's responsible for the product delivery I want to know if there will be issues with the condition of the product when it's delivered. They might think it's a separate issue but I don't. The product isn't much good if it doesn't arrive in working condition. I think I'm done reviewing products from Amazon. so it's buyer beware.

UPDATE on these lights.

i passed a guy yesterday on the highway. He started flashing his lights at me so when i got to the exit I pulled over. He stopped me to say my light was out. When I got home I investigated to see which one was out. It was one of these new H3 side marker was bulbs mentioned about in the smashed box. The fan on the back of the bulb was cocked and two of the fan blades were melted to the aluminum heat sink. The bulb died from this fan failure causing overheating. I can't say what caused the failure but I'm guessing the fan blade shaft failed causing the fan to rotate and wobble. Was it a bad design, did it wobble because I hit a bump? I won't be buying this btand again.
