Rear tire wear (strange)

I check the tire pressure frequently and add air when appropriate. The rear tire is wearing on the edges. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? The center of the tire looks fine.

.
The rear suspension leans with the frame in a turn ...... so the edges of your rear tire take a lot of abuse and will wear faster than the center unless you are in the habit of spinning it up in a straight line or only run highway....

  • Generally from under-inflation.
  • Air pressure gauge could be reading incorrectly. Try another / better quality gauge.
  • Tire manufacture could be off; it happens but is not common.
  • Possibly related to time of day when checking (checked when nice out->warm temperature) and when pressure is checked (pulled out of storage and checked after a ride->warm temperature) vs. when most driving is done (early AM/PM->cold temperature).
  • Probably not driving habits, you'd most likely know.
  • Not dog-tracking, that would affect one side of the tire only.

My first rear tire wore more on the right side than the left. Not bad alignment. I was drifting around left turns much more than right. The tire with cords showing in the center is maybe a little over inflated. Can't always go by the recommended numbers because of the load on the rear is kind of lite.

of the many rear tires I've had on this thing this is the first one that's had one side wear more than the other. The belt appears to be right where is been since day one.

this is from the service manual^^^^^ does that mean with the axle, the drive sprocket, the front wheels? And does Polaris even acknowledge the need for a front/rear wheel alignment.
