I just caught this on facebook of the Ridenow Powersports Ocala dealer meeting held over the weekend. Skip to the 55min mark to catch a video of the 2020 Slingshot

Notes: Revised front end replacing circular headlight with molded one piece (goodbye Canadian style), New steering wheel and other changes to cockpit displays and shift. Didnt notice if it was an automatic or still 5 speed (we'll know soon enough). Rest of the bodywork looks simialr to the current model but because of the quality of the video displayed its hard to notice subtle changes

Enjoy

I posted some time ago, I saw one late at night here in AZ. Late 2018. Must have been on a manufacturer testing drive. It was very dirty and has 2 escort motorcycles. I sounds different too. Not sure if there will be a different powertrain??

I've looked at the video several times and I swear that when the video cuts to the center console I don't see a gear shifter, it looks like 3 buttons for D, N and R? My dad and I came really close to buying a Slingshot back in the spring but then I started reading about a redesign coming for 2020 and a different drive train in development so we've been holding off till we hear whats coming for next year.

IMHO I just can't see how a automatic Slingshot would be fun at all.
I’m not sure if we would end up buying a automatic slingshot but I wouldn’t mind either way. I own a automatic Camaro SS with paddle shifters and for me it’s the best of both worlds. You have the Auto for heavy traffic and city driving and you can then manually shift if you want. Auto with paddle shift is faster then a manual shift, that’s why all your super cars like Ferrari have switched away from manual transmission.

It will have a new ProStar engine in it.

They are trying to capture more enthusiast and broaden their market. It wouldn’t be fun to me either, but think about the people who may have said I’ll never get a Sling because it’s a manual. Now they will get a Sling too.

You’ve been missing out on the fun sooner. The new 2020 model will have a ProStar engine. But the EcoTec is the most reliable engine probably ever built by GM.

I read somewhere on this forum that an automatic paired with the existing engine (don't know if the 2020 will have the same, likely not as the video showed the cutaway of a new engine) performs better off the start compared to the manual. Of course let's all reason why manuals aren't available even on the new corvette- almost no one uses them anymore.Business wise, it makes sense. Visceral wise, well not so much.

But won't that make our current SS even more exotic (and perhaps more desired) than the 2020 :)

Corvette transmission is a Dual Clutch transmission which is a manual transmission with dual clutches that can be shifted manually or automaticity, the line between a manual vs automatic is getting blurred! Having a clutch petal is about the only clue now days to a traditional manual transmission.

I like the lights, but an auto would not be for me: had a Vanderhall with auto...found out real quick I like auto cars but not in a three wheeler. The younger folks who have grown up not knowing how to manual shift will likely be more enthused.

The new lights are cool, but not enough for me to switch. I'm old school I know, but I prefer a manual transmission, regardless of whether or not an automatic is quicker. That said, I know of at least three people near me who have said they wouldn't buy a Slingshot unless it has an automatic transmission, or at least some form thereof. We'll see if they were serious or not. Overall, I'm excited to see what the new model year brings, but the likelihood of my trading my '17 in is near zero. (He says boldly! o_O )
