To all Tennessee SS riders. I have verify with Tn state of safety and homeland. Slingshot riders don't have to wear helmet but must wear seatbelt.
Please review Tn code Ann. 55-9-302(a). This data was also confirmed by Tn highway trooper and a memo is being sent out to all troopers. I have a copy of memo/email. I was told to copy and keep with me just in case local police don't understand the code. If anyone wants a copy of these strings of these emails send me message with your addy and I will forward
starting Saturday I am going without. I will keep you all updated but don't foresee any issues

Update- I rode over 400 miles this past weekend seen few local police and one speed trap. I was without helmet and no issues. Once after getting off the interstate local police pulled next to me and waved.

Talked to Knoxville THP LT Administrator yesterday and after a couple of conversations and calls he had made to Legal in Nashville I was informed that the Slingshot does require a helmet in the state of Tennessee.

Reading 55-9-302 (a) and (b) there is room for argument but according to the LT I would be in violation.

With any 2 wheeled bike I have always wore a helmet but I don't normally wear one in a convertible car with seat belts so kinda disappointed.

If anyone has any additional info for Tennessee let me know. I was dealing with a branch since I couldn't get through to Nashville and things could/may change since the Slingshot is so new to the lineup.

I never wore my helmet after going to/from NC for SSITS. I had a highway patrolman right behind me on I40 no problem. The letter of the law says less than 1500 lbs enclosed trike does not need a helmet, so technically the SS does not meet that criteria. I feel the intent of the law would be met. When I drive through Tennessee, I still would not wear one.

Back before SSITS I called the TN Highway patrol and questioned their interpetation of the law. They stated over the phone that as long as you had your seat belt on no helmet is required. But he could not guarantee every LEO would read the law this way. They were going to send out a memo to all local LEO's. When I arrived in Pigeon Forge I called PF PD to verify this as we would be there for a few days before going to Maggie Valley. Officier Carpenter call the Tn Highway patrol to get their input. Came back with No helmet just wear seat belt. But not saying things can't change. This is still very early in the game for these.

Every since I got the email from the dept of safety. I haven't worn a helmet and seen many police and troopers. Most gives me the thumb up.

Me and two other members rode from Knoxville through Townsend, Piegon Forge etc. yesterday without helmets and beer. Passed a couple of locals and no issues. I would really like to have some type of documentation just in case after talking to Knoxville THP.

On another note we met another Slingshot with what looked like the Twist Dynamics top at a red light on our way back to Knoxville.
I really want one of those tops.
