Does anybody use a 305/30ZR20 (or 305/30R20) size R-Compound tire with a tread wear (UTQG) rating between 75 and 150 (and a symmetrical tread pattern) on the rear of their Slingshot? If so, I will buy you lunch to give me the make and model of that tire, along with your driving impression of that rear tire setup. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I have a feeling that something in a "Slick" is probably in my future. Solves the asymmetric tread issue, but boy, I better never get caught in a south Florida cloudburst.

Nitto offers 3 models of competition tires with the NT555R offering the best Dry & Wet road traction.
NT555R D.O.T.-Compliant Competition Drag Radial Tire While the NT555R comes in just 2 20" sizes, the 305/35, while running close to 68 mph at an indicated 65, will also slightly decrease the gearing since it is a little taller than a 305/30 and hopefully reduce the chances of rear-wheel spin.

My indy is slapping these on DATSling's rear as you read this:

Potenza RE-71R - Size: 295/30R20
  • Size: 295/30R20
  • Load Range: XL
  • Max. Load= 1,819 lbs
  • Max psi= 50 psiServ.
  • Desc: 101W Load Index 101= 1,819 lbs (825 kg) per tire
    Speed Rating “W”= 168 mph (270 kph)
  • UTQG: 200 AA
A bit less than 150 at 200, but supposedly very sticky per both customer and professional reviews. Don't be put off by the 295, I measured against the stock Kenda (10" wide almost exactly), side by side, and across the Bridgestone's tread. Theses 295s are a full and solid 12" wide.

Will report back once I have 50 miles on them and the new-tire anti-mold-stick "grease" wears off. Cheers and happy Friday!

BKL, Thank you so much (as usual) . I may have to buy a few different tires and do my own comparison test.

We have been using those on our Slingshot for about a year now, they work really well, set fastest lap at Roebling Road race track with those tires, heres a video of our Slingshot with those tires at the event -

Alright, change in plan. Walk before run (which I am not generally famous for) . . . .

Quest for Rear Grip - Phase 1:
Going to keep the 9" SL rim for now. Putting a (255/35-20) Nitto NT05 on it. Heat cycle it, scrub off the mold release, and then see how it performs. It's a good, easy, simple sub-$200 first step in this exercise.
