fixmytoysCHRIS has just informed me on the item numbers and pricing for the speaker pods that come with the SL model. See Polaris parts guide. http://parts.polarisind.com/Browse/Browse.asp

I didn't want red, so I opted for the base model and will do the stereo, wheels, lighting kit, and windshield myself. Below is the information on the speaker pods for both sides.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. Any idea why the right inside enclosure is cheaper than the left? Is there something different on the sides?

So the $517.00 is all I would need less speakers to get the pods for both sides? And with the speakers they are $499.00 per side?
Just want to make sure I understand since I will want some tunes eventually.

Thanks,
Stephen

Trav,

did you look at the "speaker grills"? I didn't know if you might need them or the speakers you are using wont need or already have them.

I am going to use the speaker grills from the aftermarket speakers I buy. If it looks bad, I will order the SS ones. What are the MSRP for those?

Ryder - I noticed that too, and I am not sure. Maybe the LH is more complex because of other wiring and/or frame differences....

Toobad4u - The complete kit per side with speakers is $499 per side. $1000 total. The pods for both sides (12 pieces, no grills) is around $500 total.

Below are the speaker sizes for these pods....

Mid/Woofer - 5.25" - lowest speaker
Mid - 2.5" - middle speaker
Tweeter - top speaker

Here is what I am thinking for the mid and the tweet.....

Anyone have any idea on where to find marine/waterproof 2.5" speakers???

I am lost and don't really want to buy the stock ones from Polaris.

Is that the pricing for just the grills?! If so, what are the prices for the speakers?

You can probably use the Polaris RZR 1000 stereo double din into the Slingshot and it's waterproof. That's what I would do to mine and get JL Marine Audio co-axial speakers for it.

Guy's,

I own "No Cage Audio", we are working on becoming a sponser for this forum.

There are very few really good marine speakers out there. I am ordering the speaker enclosures to understand what will really fit. If we can fit the 6.5" speakers in the enclosures we can make a huge difference in the sound quality over the 5.25" speakers.

sloride - What are your thoughts on the 2.5" mid speakers? I can't seem to find these things anywhere and I don't really want to buy them from Polaris...
  • Are they out there and I missed them?
  • Does it make more sense to try to convert these into something larger (if so what)?

I have talked to my guys at Polk, Focal and Hybrid Audio Technologies (HAT Speakers) and none of them know of a "Marine Quality" 2.5" Mid-range speaker. All three suggest using a offset 5.25 to 6.5 adapter and using a 6.5" component speaker with 1" tweeter. both Polk and HAT make marine rated systems that will sound great and hold up to the elements. I think that is the way to go and just leave the 2.5 spot blank with the grill on it.

Make no mistake about it, Marine rated decks and speakers will need to be used to get extended use from your investment.

I am a dealer for both Polk and HAT and I will cut you guy's some good deals.

JL Audio has marine speakers and round pods.
Slingshotjohn, JL Audio makes good speakers, no doubt. but they do not make a 6.5" component marine speaker, or a 5.25" component marine speaker, or a 2.5-3" marine mid range. These are the sizes that we think we can work with using the factory speaker pods.
Their 6.5" coaxial marine speaker will handle only 60 Watts RMS. The location of the speaker pods on the SS down in the leg well, will require some serious wattage to get a LOUD clear sound up into the cockpit at highway speeds (60-80 MPH) We are going to need a system designed to run continuously in the 60 to 100 watt RMS range per speaker.

60 Watts RMS X 4 speakers in an enclosed cockpit of a car or truck will blast your ear drums. In an open air vehicle Like a SS, Razor or MC, it's just OK.

Most of my customers want a system that will allow them to hear "Freebird" or "Bad To The Bone" LOUD and CLEAR at 90 MPH. Some people could care less and think we are obnoxious jerks that need to grow up...and that's OK too.

So for those of us who are used to "plug and play" accessories for our bikes, is that what you are considering putting together? We simply contact you (your company) say we want option x or xx, you ship us the box and we plug it in?
