Second Gen Oil Change Question

1556 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  20Sling_BlueSteel
I did the 500 mile oil change on my second Gen Slingshot and was wondering if the drain plug has a metal washer on it? The reason I ask is I found one in the drain pan but the drain pan is used by someone else more frequently than me and I don't recall seeing a metal washer on the plug.

Yes there is on my 2021, they're called crush washers I believe and act as a gasket. You are supposed to replace them when they get worn. Some people recommend replacing them every oil change, I think that may be overkill..

My goldwings had crush washers. I never replaced one and my last wing had 101,000 miles. Never had a leak. Just don't crush it! Lol

Thanks for the feedback, looks like I'll need to monitor for leaks and replace it as needed or when my next oil change comes...Whichever is first.

Those washers are cheap (but not as cheap as some SS owners apparently). If it leaks you will either have a mess on your hands trying to change it or you will have to live with the leak until the next oil change. Considering how much you save doing your own oil change why chance it?

Luckily it's not leaking at all. I'll replace it next oil change. Thanks for all the feedback.
