older rider, newer idea of a slingshot

So I've been retired a few years and realize that the sun is setting on my motorcycle riding days. (around 50+ years riding when the time comes) I like to plan ahead, and have been looking for a honda civic type R, corolla GR, new integra S, for when the time comes to be down to one bike I maybe just sit on and look at in the garage (it will be the Duke 690), I was out zooming about on the duke, finished a corner and came up fast on a can-am spyder, he same me coming and lite it up, and I had to work to keep with him on the duke. So I though maybe this 3 (4) wheels things is next, I had no idea they were that fast. So to those of you have logged 10k miles or more on each. How does it compare? I think the motorcycle seating/handlebars of the can-am would just make me remember what it is not, but slingshot would be the unholy offspring of a car and bike. I used to think it had all the danger of a bike and bland of a car. I'm rethinking that.

The difference between a Slingshot and a motorcycle.
On the motorcycle you are invisible. On the Slingshot you are on a parade float. I've had people literally hit their brakes to yield to my sling.

It's what @EchoRaven02 said. I've watched people get into accidents while gawking (documented in these forums, of course!). 500 miles in a day can be no problem, relatively speaking. It's a "fun machine."

I try very hard to be visible, best I've found is a large black white bike, with white helmet and radio antenna. No one looks for bikes (except bikers), everyone looks out for cops. And if I make a high speed pass, they slow and move over for me. On a sport bike, they move to block the pass. Each time someone almost hits me because 'I didn't see you' I add a set of lights to the bike. Duke 690 currently has three separate brakes ilghts, 4 sets of rear turnsignals, three sets of front turn signals, and fog lights, they still don't see me.

So my two cents is the slingshot your ride in(side by side), and the spyder you sit on like a motorcycle. The slingshot is lower, wider, and longer. The spyder is taller, yet narrow and shorter in length. Slingshot profiles like a car, and Spyder a reverse trike. Both are fun to ride. With both, you need to have a hyper-awareness of your surroundings.

My daughter bought one of the first 2500 spyders. She has a plaque on the handle bars. She still has it. Being an mc rider for 50+ years. I didn't like riding it. She still has it but will be selling thus year. Sling is BY FAR so much enjoyable to ride. I am turning 112,000 miles on my 2015.

Years ago(55 years) I started with motorcycles. As I got older 60-70's I tried a spyder, 2009, I liked it but did not like the way it handled. It was more visible and stable than a motorcycle. I then tried scooters, Piaggio Bv500, some Vespas, a Yamaha majestic 400, and a 3 wheel, 500cc, Piaggio MP3. ...and miatas, MG midget. The scooters are a nice transition from a motorcycle. Now, for the last year I have ridden a Slingshot. I ride with my motorcycle friends -as I did with the Spyder and scooters. If you view the Slingshot as a motorcycle there will be few limitations. If it rains, or it is cold-you are on a motorcycle. Visibility is increased over a motorcycle, it is more stable and feels secure. It feels to me like a MG Midget, you feel the road...however you have 3+times the power and lighter weight.

When I define the Slingshot --- in the 1960's I had a Porshe 914 (loved it) then 50 to 70 I was on a Gold Wing for 250,000 miles and I tell every one if you mate those two you get a Slingshot. open ride like a motorcycle and stability of a new little sports car. Since Feb 2015 I've done 120,000 miles in the seat of the Slingshot.

Ej: As you added it has the "stability of a new little sports car", with new wide tires, stability control and abs. -Jim
