I have a 2015 ss and the power steering has stopped working but no check engine light and it is deft not the power saving feature as I always start the engine as soon as I turn the key. I am out of warranty and was seeing if anyone knew what it was before I have to pay a diagnostic fee.

Thanks in advance

Generally means that you had the 'Key" on for a while before starting. Turn off and let it rest for a minute or two and restart. The power steering will automatically shut down if you had the key on -- radio, etc.

One of the things I learned recently … The power steering only works at speeds under 30/35 mph above that it turns off --- the steering is electric and speed controlled.... don't know how just know that is what it does. That being said you can drive just remember that turning at slow speeds takes a little effort.

Rabtech recently had a similar issue, but his would work briefly after starting, and then would go off and not work again until he restarted.

"The main thing was the bottom connector on the Power steering unit. It had a short in the plug. I have never ever unplugged it for any reason. So I have no idea how this happened."

Might try pulling the connectors from the power steering unit and checking for shorts. They put dielectric grease on all of them, to prevent any future problems.

Good luck

Thanks for the info I will be taking it to pep boys on Tuesday to drain and fill the trans and diff. So while it is in the air I will check the connection I have had a few check engine codes for the power steering in the past for low voltage so I wonder if it is a short. Just weird how there is no code now when it is completely not working

Also did they put all new plugs on or how did they correct the short?
