As some of you are aware, the new Slingshot S without the tech package does not come with locks on the seat storage doors. I have read people pay anything from $170 to $240 to get locks. Well, I just added locks for $8 for both. When bought in groups the locks all use the same key. I bent the lock tongue a little because I didn't want to need to push the rubber grommets in every time I locked the doors.

Camper storage locks 4 for $11. Ok, I need a couple for my camper.
L bracket, 4 for $3.
2 washers. The outer ring on the locks I received did not match the description. So, I had to add 1 washer for each lock.

I don’t bother locking mine. I figure if a thief knows there is a storage compartment behind the seat and moves the seat forward to get at it he or she will be equipped with a tool to force the flimsy locks that came on mine. Then I’d have to replace what they stole AND repair the damage.

And I leave the key in the Slingshot most of the time.

The reason for locks isn't to just stop thieves. It is to make your vehicle harder to steal from than someone else's. Thieves are lazy for the most part and will usually move on when they see the locks. Plus, it cuts down on the opportunity thefts and smash and grabs - which make up most thefts from vehicles.

Like I said I don’t lock mine but I do have an alarm system which includes a proximity alarm.

Locks keep honest people honest. Over 90 % of car thefts are smash and grabs. They aren't going to bother if there are locks and they can't see anything of value. When you park and fold your seat forward to block the heat or stop people from getting in, you are inviting people to reach in and open and steal anything that is in there. And they will.

107,000+ miles traveling all over the eastern 1/2 of the USA and no problems. Not saying things can't happen, I'm just not going to spend a lot of time worrying --- most costly to replace the lock and door than anything that I have in it.

Only a thief that is familiar with the SlingShot will even know about the storage spaces behind the seat, and then even when locked a hard tug and they open anyways. In seven years ours have never been locked, but we do install the cockpit cover if left unattended for any length of time and the SlingShot has yet to be molested.
