Mahalo, I’m a new member located in Pennsylvania. Always liked to look at Slingshots never sat, drove. Recently after three motorcycles and my youngest getting older I’m thinking about buying one soon. Primarily because a bike only one can enjoy whereas my wife or oldest can come along for rides. I am already looking at modifications. I’m torn between a pre-2020 model or a 2020 model. I know I want a turbo/super charger on it. I’m not wild about ddm and from what I’ve read so far zap only works on pre 2020 models. So hopefully as time goes on I’ll forgive that out and wait for a decent deal. Cheers

I don't understand why modifications are even on the table. The sling all by itself is a finominal experience. Buy, enjoy then maybe think about mods.

If you are looking to turbo/supercharge you only have one choice.... A Slingshot with the GM 2.4 Ecotech motor. At this point DDM is your best choice. I'm not boosted and will not but I have been around thru all the conversations and DDM very good, ZZP has be good but the young man who was the Slingshot man with ZZP and left the company. They are probably still good I just know any of them personally. Dave at DDM is super and there at every step you take with any of his products.
Lots of pre 2020 Slingshots for sale with very low miles. Spring is not the best time when looking for price. Welcome to the 'World of Slingshot Insanity'...Since Feb 2015 I have had 120,000 miles of smiles with mine.

My 2019 S has a hard time keeping rubber on the road during hard acceleration. When passing I don't stomp the throttle, I feather it. My sling is bone stock, all mods done for comfort.

Why do all the dealers charge $2000+ for freight then add multiple other "fees" so that what was once a decent advertised price balloons to gouging? Then used models ask for over the supposed MRSP, and do not depreciate. The bottom line is that Slingshots SHOULD be much more popular, but Dealer greed turns off potential buyers.
Is there any difference between the 178 and 204 HP motors, or is it just software, and can I then reflash or chip the cheaper version? Is there any real world difference between the 255 and 305 mm meats, or their attendant suspensions? As a long-time 2 wheeler, higher levels of trim always have better hardware, but the only difference I see is in BNG (Bold New Graphics) and electronics. The former is irrelevant since I care little for superficialities, and the latter makes no difference in my riding experience - the whole point is to blow away over-thought over-wrought synthetic urges and rather connect to God's nature. Is there a purpose to the rear dorsal fin, other than preventing rearward vision or useable racks, and can I just install a $50 backup camera from AutoZone? The expensive large screen and GPS are easily replaced by my bluetooth phone and earplugs, which I need anyway. Can the spindly "roll cage" be added to any model easily (financially and physically), what roof do you recommend, are there aftermarket cooling/warming seats, and does better lighting come with a bulb swap or $80 LED addition? What are the insurance (costs and) data regarding safety, which are universally decried by both the 4 and 2 wheel sides?

The power difference is software. I’m not aware of a way to upgrade it other than Polaris doing the software. Its about $600, but it can be a nice upgrade after you’ve had it for a while and want some new excitement.
As far as trim, you can add options to a base S and get pretty much to having an R. It’s pretty much all compatible. Aftermarket options are cheaper.
Despite what physics says, the wider rear tire puts power down better. I think it also looks better, the narrow tire always looks too skinny for something sporty.
Call a lot of dealerships. A few months ago, delivery was under $1k, it is published on Polaris website but it’s not easy to find. Most dealerships are trying to tack on a couple thousand extra, but there’s a few that don’t. The best I was able to find was barely better than MSRP. Everything’s expensive, unfortunately.
