I'm a Maryland resident but can't get SlingShot through inspection. I've been told to just tag it in VA. Does anyone one know the requirements in VA? If this is even possible. I've looked online and think it's possible just want to know if anyone else has done this.

This is what you see when you turn the key on. This plus brake safety switch should be enough. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Not sure why you're having a problem. I had mine inspected in MD (St Mary's county) as have many others. There weren't any Slingshot dealers in MD, so they were bought out of state (mine from VA), inspected in MD and tagged in MD.

Where are you having it inspected, and what is it failing on?

So I bought my SlingShot from Cycle Springs in Florida. It was converted to an automatic. The conversion keeps it stock looking. It failed because of no gear indicator or neutral safety switch. I fixed the gear indicator but still have no neutral safety switch. Mind you the car will not start if you do not have brake pedal engaged. The clutch safety switch was moved to the brake pedal.

Ah. Not having a true neutral safety or clutch switch is a problem. Not sure that VA will overlook that either. Maybe seek out a transmission specialist and see if one can be installed.

And yes, I realize you no longer have a clutch...

What I am currently arguing is that in a manual you must engage the clutch to start the SlingShot. It will start in any gear and you do not have a gear indicator. In the automatic you can start it in any gear but I have gear indicator( that lights up when key is turned on) and brake pedal must be full engaged. (This is where clutch safety switch is now hooked up.) I am wait for paperwork from dealership to submit to the guy who oversees the inspection stations in my area. I'm still hopeful.
Got any friends in a “no inspection” state that would let you use their address for registration purposes?????
Not that I know of.

If I were an inspection station, I wouldn't pass this either. It can still lurch if it's in gear regardless of the brake, and heaven forbid you're not pressing on the brake as hard as you thought you were.
Good luck.

If you don't press on ithe brake hard it doesn't start believe me. Even the tech had to ask me how to start it. I now know that it takes significant pressure. So if you don't have gear indicator on manual, you don't know what gear you start in. If you release the clutch it will lurch. At least I know what gear I'm in before I start it. Just saying.
