He had his unit off the vehicle, but if you jack up the left front tire, it will tilt the vehicle to the right to the point that you can put at least 1.25 quarts of oil in the unit.
Take off the battery box cover and slide the battery forward will give you better access to servicing.

Exactly, you need to jack the left about 3ft off the ground and fill it slowly to get the last 1/2 in. I did spin the rear tire to help distribute the oil. I also flushed the old oil before adding the new.

You do not have to flush the case. The way they designed it it will empty every last drop out. Get an old wine bottle cork, drill a hole in the center the same size as your hose from your pump. Pump in 1.6 quarts if your quick, pull the cork and insert the plug you should only loose about .1 quarts.

Fascinating and educational thread; thanks lilb.

If the belt tension changes with suspension movement, it means the angle drive sprocket is not concentric with the swing arm pivot axis; I wonder why Polaris didn't make it like that.

The solution, which would also take care of the thermal expansion mismatch, would be to adjust the swingarm so the belt is loose and add a tensioner that would keep the preload more or less constant.

The only thing I see, on Saturday had it out on I-81 was running it at a constant 110 mph. never maintained that speed except for a few seconds. Ran it for about 15 miles that way and it started to puke out a little bit on gear lube. I have a long tube from the angle drive up to the fuel tank. It was a few drops running down the tube, so puking it out was a wrong word to use. Normal driving it never dropped a drop of oil and I drive it on the Interstate and average 90 to 100 all the time.It now has 1300 miles since I rebuilt it.

How is the new rebuilt rear doing??
So far, so good.

(it's clickable!)

Just realized you were addressing someone else. Ooops. My bad.

I did get a cork this weekend to plug the hole when adding excessive fluid, we'll see how it goes after I pick up some lube.

Looks like I need to pick up hose if I'm gonna stress the drive unit? Guess that's what it is then...

Thanks for the update. I took your recommendation and added more oil to the rear of my SS. Thanks for your help
I went +10oz over spec -- didn't do sh!t for the noise. In fact, I kinda thought it was louder...but decided that was just because I had turned the radio off and was purposely driving in that 30mph - 50mph range to listen.

I'm probably going to try to get the dealer to replace the thing under warranty...5,500 miles now and still no significant improvement.
