I was told that the 2019 engine is more problem free over the newer Polaris engine. Is this true?

I don't know. On forums it may seem like there are allot if issues but in reality you don't hear anything about the ones with no issues. I have a 2015 with 112,000 miles and has only been back for recalls. I'd go with what you like. But, if you go with the Polaris engine then your pretty much stuck with Polaris for engine repairs and Polaris is not the most responsive. But in reality that should not be an issue.
I have a 2016 with 102,000+ miles and NO issues. If I ever buy another Slingshot it will be one with the GM motor.
The non polaris motor is a GM Ecotech. Well proven engine. The polaris (if I'm not mistaken) is 2 UTV engines basically bolted together.

It is. Especially the first year and a half of production. The Prostar engine has had a lot of complaints of oil consumption which didn't set off any warning lights until the engine was damaged. There were thoughts that the PCV system was causing the problem since the engine does rev up pretty high. Polaris's original advise was to run an extra quart of oil in the engine and check the oil level each time you drive it. From what i have heard, the 2023 models haven't had any problems. The other thing with the GM engine vrs Polaris is the parts availability and cost. Polaris parts are extremely expensive and they don't stock a lot of parts either. With the GM engine, you can get parts at most auto parts stores.

Don't buy older model with older engine! Get the '20 which is the next and newest evolution of the Sling.
+1 for the GM motor. I have s 2017 SLR and it runs great. Do your research and buy what you like. Ride safe.

The GM engine is way better than the Polaris engine. New is not always the best.
