We have some bad news:
According to the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, the Polaris Slingshot is not a motorcycle. As a result of this, the three-wheeled roadster cannot be registered in the state.
Polaris Industries has been fighting, and encouraging the residents to do so as well, to allow this registration and legally declare the Slingshots fit for use on Connecticut roads, much as they are in all but 3 US states.
The DMV told Polaris last week that the Slingshot will be required to meet the safety standards of automobiles, which are much more stringent than that of motorcycles.
Polaris has been advised by the DMV to take this piece of legislature to the State for further clarification and legal action.
According to the Connecticut DMV, a motorcycle "excludes vehicles that have an enclosed driver's seat and an enclosed motor." The Slingshot, as a motorcycle, fails both of these requirements.
