When adding tranny fluid, has anyone ran a hose from tranny to top of engine to pour fluid in with a funnel? If so, what size OUTER diameter hose did you use?.

I have 51,500 on my 15 sl. Still shifts great
Should I still change?
Jerri, I would if it were mine. I did my '16 with Polaris brand which was about $11-12 bottle. Dont remember for sure but I believe it takes about 3. I used a local quick lube shop who does my oil changes as well (with my oil and filter) as he is very familiar with our type motors and did the drain for me for $20. Don't know why anyone would be against using Polaris transmission fluid!

I ordered gl3 acdelco and got shipped acdelco gl3 19354435 manual transmission fluid instead of 89021806. Guess I will go with what they shipped since it is gl3 75w90
That's what I get from ordering online. Had a hard time finding gl3. Should have gone with Polaris then no question

I don't know what the diff is between the two. Might be worth asking svc dept at local GM dealer. Hopefully they might be familiar with our manual xmsn which is believe is made by Aisin (may not be spelled correctly). Perhaps they would exchange it with you if what you have is something they normally use. There is something about certain (yellow?) metal parts in that xmsn that require GL3. Like you, I couldn't find a GL3 synthetic anywhere, other than Polaris. Let us know how you make out.

Just finished changing the tran oil with acdelco gl3 manual trans oil. Used my quickjack 7000. Jack was quick and super easy. You will need a 15/16 socket preferably a short one. I couldn't get the socket and ratchet on the top fill plug. Had to use socket and extended bar. I used a at squirt can from tractor supply to add the oil.

The Grasshopper is sneaking up on 20,000 miles and I think at that time we'll stay with Mobil 1 in the engine, but I think I will be dumping the Royal Purple out of the tranny, and the Lucas out of the angle drive, and going with Polaris brand in both.............

Did my first SS at 10 or 15K, can't remember, with Polaris fluid. Changed Angle Dr on new SS at about 1500 or so. Plan on doing it again pretty soon. 4500 and will shortly change motor oil and have cover put on transmission. Lots of folks go "by the book" and there's nothing wrong with that; its whatever makes u feel good.:)

Even though the label of the Royal Purple says that it is ok for yellow metals, I will be a lot more comfortable actually having a GL-3 rated fluid in there.................

Thats the way I felt about it too Bill, and price is not much diff than typical synthetic trans fluid. As for Angle Drive....lots to choose from. So far I'm real happy with conventional stuff from Walmart for $4.75. Price had nothing to do with it; I like to try diff things. As crude as that Drive is, one could prob run motor oil. Prob run that for rest of year and change to good synthetic next spring, depending on how I feel.

You might recall a long thread started over a year ago or so, by a guy (IIilb..or something like that) that sounded like he really knew some stuff about gears, machinery, etc; took his angle drive apart, changed bearings to Timken, re-cut gears, did all sorts of tests, etc. He said the amount of gear oil Polaris calls for barely (or maybe not at all) touched the bottom of the main gear, thus not oiling properly. He measured total capacity and it can hold 2.75 quarts. I believe he ran either 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 in his with no problems. I was able to get 1 1/2 in my other SS but only used a full quart in this one. Since its running so quiet now, I'll prob stick with that amount next time.

Yup my bad. I ordered acdelco gl3 manual trans oil online and ended costing me $18 at delivered
I have this mental block always assuming the dealer price would be more. I will check their price when I get the next recall. Just kidding..
