I understand it's an old post. If you want to add a turbo oil return line to the 2.4L LE5 engine, then you drill out the main cap girdle, you don't drill the block or the pan.

1/2" NPT tapping into an LE5 mains cap girdle.

You are assuming the turbo is high enough to gravity drain correctly to that point. 99% of the kits cannot utilize that location as the turbo sits too low and people don't want to run a scavenger pump.

I do agree that this is the ideal location if you are going with a top mount turbo.

I pulled my oil pan to swap in the pre-modded pan I got from Hahn Racecraft at the beginning of the month. Unfortunately, after being under the weather the first half of the month and then having my Son and Granddaughter come visit, I am only now getting back to the turbo install.
I have a question about the oil pickup. The Hahn oil pan consists of a bare pan, so the baffle and oil pickup must be transplanted. When I removed the oil pickup from the original pan, it appeared to just be a friction fit as I couldn't see any sign of any type of sealant on the oil pickup tube going to the oil pickup point in the original pan. I simply pushed the pickup tube into place so that the screws were able to secure the pickup intake to the bottom of the oil pan. Is sealant needed or should I just stay with the press-fit? I haven't been able to find a write-up anyplace. I'd hate to install the pan only to find that the oil pump is cavitating and not picking up any oil thru the pickup tube. The impact on my motor would definitely be disastrous!
Good morning, I've ordered a new engine oil pan due to the fact that I bottomed out and damaged my oil pan. My problem is that the pan although loose wont seem to get past the cross bar. How did you get past the cross bar. Thanks for anything you can add.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. I usually don't check my emails until around 5 pm.
I attached a copy of @Blitzkrieg's Alpha Turbo install tips/instructions and followed paragraphs 10 - 18 to remove, clean and reinstall the oil pan. Hope this helps. Even after jacking the engine via the transmission mount, I still found it tricky getting the pan out and even harder getting it back in w/o disturbing the RTV sealant on the oil pan, but it can be done. Make sure you get all of the old RTV removed form the engine block. I used a plastic razor blade and holder I ordered from Amazon to avoid damaging the aluminum if I had used a metal scraper/razor blade. I used some gasket cleaner and also used some brake cleaner to help get the old RTV off the pan and the block. I have also read that sprayng some WD-40 on the RTV and letting it sit for a while can loosen the RTV can help loosen the old RTV. See - RTV remover - Google Search. I also used brass and plastic brushes as I had read that steel brushes might scratch the aluminum.
Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that before you can loosen the motor mounts, you need the pan in place to jack up the engine to provide room to place the support blocks under the mounts. The you can use the floor jack under the transmission mount to raise the engine to help provide room to get the pan out.

Get the engine raised and put some blocks under the motor mounts and then jack up the trans/engine via the transmission mount and you should be able to wiggle the ol pan out. Whe you go to put the pan back in, make sure none of the RTV on the pan touches anything during the process. I had to remove the pan and reclean all of the new RTV because I let the RTV touch during the install and ended up with a leak.
Good Luck!
