Had a great time at the Battle Creek SpeedFest today. I had an extremely hard time getting traction at first but nailed my 3rd run and hit 131.12mph even with the strong head wind and 95* temps. Looking forward to the WannaGoFast 1/2mi races in Ocala FL in October. Hope to be even faster by then. The printer was broken so they were not handing out time slips but they did post the results on the website here Tuesday July 3, 2018 - morning runs I'm #155

9psi . I’m pretty sure I’m at the limit of the stock bottom end. I installed a high low boost switch and left the line on 4psi since I was having such an issue with traction and then switched to 9psi once I got moving.

Congrats @Kyle D !!!

Sounds like you had a great outing. How much boost were you running to run those numbers?
Has anyone that you know of gone faster? I know Mark Richardson (Stickerdick?) was flying at the FL ½ and I think one of the slips he posted in another thread was 130.86mph but that is the fastest I’ve seen so far.

I don't know of anyone faster. That is why I was interested in how much boost it took to get the job done. As with anything there is always more than one way to reach a goal but regardless it takes hp and torque to move a given weight to a given speed withing a given distance. I'm looking forward to going back to Ocala this fall. I wish I could take mine. Not that I would be competitive at all but just to enjoy making the passes and trying to improve.

It's hard to get it moving on a non prep'ed surface so you really have to have a strong back half to do well. On an 1/8 mile we can run 90+ mph but that is a "track" not an air strip. If we could get that kind of traction at the air strip then we could likely push the top speed in the half closer to 150mph .

Yeah it took a lot. Pretty much everything you can throw at a stock bottom end without breaking it. I was also running a MT Drag Radial at 20psi and traction, or the lack of, was still an issue.

Why aren’t you bringing yours to Ocala?

@Kyle D I am still running on a stock block assembly and they don't fair too well on long 4th gear pulls. In my passes on the 1/8th mile I was ready for 4th gear at the end. That means that I'd be full throttle in 4th gear for 3/8th of a mile and expect to reach 130mph+. Not a good combination for a stock bottom end at 11lbs of boost. It would take a miracle for me to find and finish a good engine before that race. I would love to do it but it don't appear to be in the cards right now.

Yeah totally get that. Well it'll be cool to meet all the SS enthusiasts down in FL. I RARELY see another one here in MI.

There are some up there. Do you frequent another forum called www dot slingshotinfo dot com? There are a few folks from MI that participate over there. Several of the same people you see here you will see over there. Great bunch of folks.

I am planning to be at Ocala but I'll just be support for some of the other riders for between round thrashes. I really hope both Rabtech and Stickerdick can up the ante this time. Traction will be the issue because they both are pumping near 20lbs of boost. It should be a great show!

You are the current fastest 1/2 mile MPH holder. I never got to run mine in AZ at a 1/2 mile event. My engine builder screwed up my 1st built motor and I had to go as a spectator. Didn't get back to a 1/2 mile event when I was running the forged motor, 15psi, and race fuel.

Either way, it would have been embarrassing if compared to other cars at these events. Mine would have went to the rev limiter in 4th gear, but I am not sure I could have picked up any speed in 5th. Maybe, but I will never know...

If you are going to take the trip down to FL and battle it out with these guys, you are going to want to do the below...

  • ditch the mirrors
  • remove the mud flaps
  • lower it as much as possible - guessing you have upgraded adjustable shocks
