Ordering my new track tires and found out that Toyo is not producing the R888 anymore. They are moving forward with only the R888r.

GONE

REPLACEMENT

This is really bad news for the Slingshot owners that don't want to run an asymmetric tire in the rear. This isn't a good street tire choice for most anyways, but it is a BAD NEWS for the people that want to run autocross/track events.

Ordered 2 of the last ones in 335/30/18 off of ebay. Hopefully they will get me through 4-6 events before I need to figure out something new.

That is the problem... There is literally no other brands/models to replace the R888. Everything is going asymmetrical. I have looked at like 50 tires and nothing will work for me.

The ebay R888s I bought from SimpleTire, were shipped as R888r tires. Looks like a I am stuck running an asymmetric tire on the rear for the next several track events. We will see how it goes.... ;(

The NT05 is not that great of a tire and is not a r compound "track" tire. The 555 G2 would actually be a better option for most people for street driving. Also, the largest rear size for an 18in wheel is 295 in the NT05. This is way too small for my 18x12 rear rim.

The 555R and NT05R are R compound tires, but are drag radials. I used to run an NT05R on the back at track days, but it wore out really fast. Nitto's race/autocross tire is the NT01. They are great, but again are asymmetrical.

The R888s were THE TRACK tire for the Slingshot. They were symmetrical and they made a ton of different sizes. Not having them is a huge pain!

Thank you for the information. I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to tires, and what I do know has always been limited to performance street tires. When the time comes I do plan on replacing my stock tires with the 555 G2's

I have literally looked at every manufacture imaginable....

There is nothing else decent out there for me in 335/30/18 for rear that will also have a front size in 255 or 265/18. I will have to run the stupid new R888r in the back and see how it goes....

I am not yet willing to go with a Hoosier track tire...

what about the Toyo Proxes RR - I dont think they have your size, but they do have a 305 35r 18 that would fit a 12 inch

Well I guess I'll be ordering an extra Toyo 335/30/18 R888r rear tire before they all sell out. I don't do the track thing, but with a boosted enging lighting up the rear tire is not hard to do. Lol

Don't worry about the new R888r running out. This is going to be their current tire that will replace the R888. They will have plenty in that size until a new variation of this tires come, which probably wont be soon.

Depending on if they can find me the correct tires I ordered, I will probably just end up order 2 Toyo R888s they have left in stock in the 305/35/18 size.

The Toyo Proxes RR wouldn't be a bad option if it is my last option. I really want to run something with a more aggressive tread pattern, so I feel better about driving back and forth to events.

We shall see how this all works out I guess...
