Alpha - I want my money back!

I am taking my turbo off and sending it back.

This thing is going to get me arrested. :)

I kid, I kid. Absolutely LOVE the Stage 1. She shit's and gets. No doubt about that.

A big shout out to Alpha. Seriously I couldn't ask for anything more except an Alpha wash cloth to wipe the shit eating grin I have on my face everytime I drive this thing.

You just want your money back so you can buy more upgrades, don't think you're kidding anyone. All Henry would hear is, "It's in the mail, should arrive any day now..." and all your neighbors would hear is, "BrrrrRRRR-Psssssss-BRRRRRRRR-PSSSSSS-RRRRR!!"

Hey, I've funded Henrys oldest kid's college fund. If there was justice in the world Henry junior would be named Henry Bliztkrieg Chan. And his schoolmates would call him Blitz. Trust me, it's a cool nickname.

Blitz what kind of power did you dynoed at with stage 1?

I only have 190 miles on her so she has not been on the dyno yet. Once I get through with break-in my boys down at 3R Racing are going to load her up and see what she's got.

My butt dyno tell's me it's looking good. I have kept it under or at 4K (been hard to do) and I can tell you it lights up the rear wheel under throttle in 3rd gear and 4th feels like it's spinning.

To be honest, it's more power than I expected.

What the dyno will show.... Give me about 2 months to get through break-in.

Mine is sitting in my garage ready for install. Your post made my head tingle with excitement. Are you running the standard or higher boost "natural spring" ?

I am running the stock Alpha 6 lbs spring and will continue to do so until I have the AFR/Boost/Failsafe installed.

I've talked to Henry about it and read his comments and the general consensus is you are as safe a baby in mother's arms @ 6 lbs boost on a stock EcoTec 2.4 but you start going up the scale and....

I've also been reading a lot of [email protected] articles as well as the Turbocharging Performance Handbook I bought (great book) that covers the EcoTec and the general consensus there is the rods in the stock LE5 are the weak link. I personally feel when I start looking at boosting up the ladder I am not doing so until the rods, pistons and head studs are taken care of.

I'd recommend you go with the stock Alpha Turbo for a while and see what you think. I can smoke up the back tire under throttle in 1-3 and spin it in 4 with the stock set up so it is not lacking in grunt by any means.

HH is running 9 lbs of boost on the SS he and Squirrel just bought from DenverBill and it hasn't blown up. I think you start going over 9 lbs you probably want to think about internal mods so you don't end up with 5 quarts of Mobil1 on your feet. Just my .02 from what I have gathered.

I should also note there are guys with a whole lot more real world experience than I on the turbo - Rabtech, iNewton, [email protected] and Travis off the top of my head. A lot of what I have learned has come from those guys.

I've talked to a few guys running the 9psi spring and none of which have had any issues. One of which races on a track and beats the hell out of his and has not done any engine internal changes. As you know, I have that failsafe I'll be installing so I think I'm going to take the chance. I've always enjoyed pushing the envelope! lol

Go for it brother. You know my motto: "Do one thing everyday that scares the hell out of you". :)

I'm already budgeting/saving for shipping my motor down to South Carolina with a note on the crate to Dave that says "Make it handle 500 HP". Then, I am going to go bat shit crazy with boost.
How much would that cost approx? And does belt and tranny have to be swapped out as well or other components?

Ballpark: $4K for the engine build.$800 for shipping engine to and fro. +/- 10%.

I am going with Carrillo rods and the good stuff (go big or go home) so planning on $5K.

I am going to have the rear wheel widened this winter to accompany the increased HP.

There are guys pumping some pretty serious HP out with the stock belt. The tranny is a well built unit with a good reputation. Clutch.... probably the weakest part of link outside of the hit and miss angle drive.
