Alberta owners

I have paid my deposit on my SL and was told I would get delivery April 15 or sooner. Based on the Dec. 23 news release it sounds like I will get it before the end of Feb.

I'm in the Calgary area and would like to hear from other Alberta owners, especially their experience in getting insurance. My usual insurance broker, which insures my two present motorcycles, told me they can't insure any motorcycle with an engine larger than 2300 cc. They did get a third party to give me a quote of $2,500 for full coverage. I phoned several other insurance brokers, most told me they can't get me coverage, but I did get a second quote of around $3200 for full coverage. I'm a senior with a clean driving record so these are outrageous rates! If I can't get a better deal I'll likely just put on the required third party liability insurance which was quote less than $400.

What is your experience (Alberta only please as I have read most of the USA experience in this forum)?

Yar, I have my insurance through Klondike in Edmonton. Last year I put all my bikes under Klondike as I previously had three different insurance companies as many would not touch certain bikes. They are a broker, and they use Echelon. I believe I was the first to get insurance through Echelon as they did not have the Slingshot in their system when I inquired a couple weeks back. Betty Jo at Klondike did not want to lose me as a customer. The price for full coverage is about $700 and change.
You can also go online and check with TD Monnex, the Slingshot shows up as a motorcycle model and you can get a preliminary quote online.
Also, I have put a few hundred km on the SS over the past week when the roads have been bare - it is a blast! No regrets! It rides (drives?) great and no bike I have ever had on the road has ever drawn so many inquiries (and photos).

Thanks Thunder!

I phoned Klondike and they quoted me $700 and change as well. I'm very please with this!

It is funny that you pointed out TD Meloche Monnex as they where the ones that have the 2300 cc limit and got me the $2,500 quote from a third party. Perhaps, since I got the quote on Dec 12, they have decided to insure it at reasonable rates. When I get delivery of my SL I'll phone them again to see if they can beat Klondike.

Glad to hear you have been out for rides. I'm located in Springbank and perhaps we could get out for rides together after I get mine.
Yar, let me know when yours arrives in the spring. I will be out as soon as the roads clear up again!
Will do Thunder! I'll send you a private message with my phone number etc.

Have you had any contact with "Rick Danger" who shows as being in the Calgary area also? Also "TansporteRR" who is also located in Alberta?
Hey man, i was quoted $788 a year with 3 speeding tickets, with Echelon.
Good to hear TransporteRR. Have you taken delivery yet? And if so, have you had it out for a spin?
No sir, I'm a few grand shy of being paid off so no its still at dealership
I'm looking out the window right now at blizzard conditions, so you are not missing any riding time!
Mine was insured under TD for 635 +/-...got 400 km on her so far.... waiting out this cold snap, to hit the road again! Supposed to be +6C on Wednesday??
Thanks Rick Danger! Which TD insurance broker and was it before or after Dec 12th? As you can read in post 4 above TD Meloche Monnex on Dec 12 told me they couldn't insure it do to the 2300 cc rule.

Glad to hear you were able to get in some kilometers, before the latest snow.
Rick - I hope you have enjoyed your first 400 km as much as I have enjoyed putting 300 on! I am also waiting for the weather and the roads to improve so I can put some more mileage on. Between the ice and fine gravel, the roads are not looking too good, especially the side roads.

Yar - you can go online right now and get a quote with Monnex. You do not have to talk to an agent yet, but you will have to follow up with them. I went online in mid December and it only took about 5-10 minutes.
Ya, I can't believe I've got 400 already... just finished shoveling driveway (been in Mazatlán last 2 weeks)... depressing.

Last year I went for a motorcycle ride to Cochrane & area on Jan 25th (Robbie burns day ride!) it was +11C. I'm confident I'll get to a 1000K before spring... hopefully our dealer will be able to service it. Considering doing first service myself....
I am hoping for some good riding before spring as well. Regarding the first service, as much of a pain it will be to drop it off, it may be worthwhile so they can can complete a full check.

Thunder, I took your advise and got a quote online from Monnex - $694 Glade to hear they now offer coverage!

Boy, I'm going to have to put the kilometers on, when I get mine, to catch up to you two. My wife and I are already planning some cross country trips for spring. Being fully retired, we'll likely get a lot of use out of our SS this year.

I am waiting for mine too. I started a riding group on FB " Slingshot Calgary" feel free to join. I have some rides \ ice cream runs planned and if there is enough interest a road rally. I am also a member of the MG club of Calgary and will probably join some of the highway runs with the 2 groups.

Welcome to the Slingshot Forum MiniMan!
We are all eager to get back on the road and for some of you to get your SS's and start putting on the mileage. I do not do FB, but I am usually interested in a ride. I am located in the NW just beyond the city limits.
