Given some of the horror stories about alarm-installs gone wrong, I'm tempted to just install a flashing blue LED and a switch to deactivate it to make it look like I've got an alarm installed.

Have someone like car toys install it and you can't go wrong. They are the best installers in the business. Very professional installs with wire looms, tie wraps, etc. used to install it like the factory would.

I installed my old gorrilla alarm from my Canam. It has a sensitive shock sensor so if anyone monkeys with my can am it blows the alarm.

I have an alarm installed that is proximity and shock sensor. So if someone gets to close for an extended time or pushes on the car it sets off the alarm. This then sends a notification to my phone and smart watch. I am able to disable the alarm from either. I am also able to track the sling by GPS if I wished to do so.

When we don't want anybody to mess with our SlingShot we simply just slip the cover on..........................:meh:

Honestly, if anybody is really all that concerned about their vehicle, wouldn't it be a whole lot less bother and worry to just leave it home in the garage where it is safe?

That's just stupid.

• Slingshots always get attention. Mess with it enough to set off the alarm and everybody notices.
• A good alarm is so piercing nobody wants to mess with it twice.
• Criminals don't want to mess with it for the above reasons.

In Estes Park Colorado we parked the Slingshot two blocks away from a diner and the Keychain kept alerting me. When a spot opened up I pulled it 40' from where we had a table outdoors. It was usually kids leaning in that set off the proximity sensor which tripped a warning of three piercing chirps, causing the parent to grab their kid and pull them away--exactly the reaction I wanted. Same with the motion sensor--don't touch it!

NOTE: I have a professionally installed Viper (with most of the stuff like door alarms & interior light connection disabled. Polaris now has a plug-and-play system I'd install myself and am thinking of buying for Squirrel.

Here is my take on vehicle alarms:

If the bad guys REALLY want it -- they will figure out a way to get it. Your job is to make your vehicle less attractive to steal than others. Vehicles with good (i.e. difficult to defeat) alarms are less attractive targets than vehicles with poor (easy to defeat) or no alarms.

The same goes for your house, by the way. If they really want in - they will get in. You just want to make your house the least attractive target (i.e. lots of light, video cameras, few or no places to be concealed from view, etc).

@WI_Hedgehog is 100% correct tho -- they are very effective at keeping idiots away from your Slingshot.

Hi all - new here - just got ride of my Harley for a SS - getting older and can't make those long trips any longer. I have been searching relentlessly for an alarm with auto-start, and messaging as well a proximity alarm. I have enjoyed the humor on the forum about the alarm systems but I truly need to make a purchase. I understand that there is no such thing as a foolproof system - but after 30 years in law enforcement I can tell you that anything that draws attention to a vehicle when someone is attempting to jack it will act as lights turning on, and watching the roaches scurry. Also anything that slows a perp down will surely move them onto another unprotected property. Anything that can guide me into the right direct would be greatly appreciated.

Not so. Talked to my dealer and he pulled out the box and showed it to me. Nowhere on the box or his online info does it say 2017 SLR only. I just installed one on my 2017 SL and everything fit and worked just fine (after a full charge on unit and remote) The only harness you get into is the key switch, the hazard flashers and the radio. I believe that even if you did not have the factory radio the harness would still be there and powered. Others on the internet are reporting using the same alarm on their slings without problems. Of course you could just install a scropio SR-i900R and have the same alarm without the plug and play part. I got mine from my dealer $449.99, used the Polaris $50 off coupon, then my loyalty points so the end price was $314.99, good deal.

Thanx for the info. I don't have all the discounts, so it would be full price for me. It becomes a toss between the convenience of plug/play vs lower cost of the scorpio.
