OK, I have asked this before but have got no response, why should it not be centered, it is noticeably quieter on our machine?

Bill
First - Because the service manual is very specific on calling it out in doing this way.

Second - it was be me guess that it needs to be like this, so the belt is tracking true and more to the inside of the front sprocket. Less chance for the belt to fly off in some type of odd bad situation..?

We probably will never know the true answer from a Polaris engineer....

Valid point. Run it where you are happy and it sounds good.

I have ran mine both ways, and mine is quieter running to the inside. This was the same case with another local guy here in AZ.

And I believe that you hit the nail right on the head with this post, TravAZ, where each SlingShot appear to develop their own "personality" and need be treated as the individuals that they become, (like children?) ................ :)

Added note, the Polaris manual appears to give advice on how to adjust the "tone" of the SlingShot:

8. If the drive belt is too far inboard, the belt will make
noise during deceleration. If drive belt is too far
outboard, the belt will make noise during acceleration
or while under load.

Another added note, OK, sometimes it takes a bit for some info to sink in to this ever thickening skull, can we also take from the above statement that the belt naturally creeps outward during acceleration and then back inward during deceleration?

Changing the angle drive oil to a heavier oil usually helps (75w-140), Royal Purple, or some of the other brands people are mentioning. We use the Polaris 75w-140 in our customer's machines (changed everyone's out during the recall for N/C). Cleaning the belt regularly helps with noise. We've also had good success running the belts looser with 2mm more deflection at 10lbs (via the service manual spec) - this helps with noise also and the belt is not too loose. I've got over 16k miles on our current Sling and about 5k on our original Sling with these specs and our angle drive is quiet (makes a little noise when in colder temps until the belt and drive warm up a bit though which is normal).

I changed my AD gear lube out Friday night, filled it up to top of side hole using Royal Purple. Only took about 16 oz, which I know was low.. Ran some errands Saturday morning, rechecked levels, got it to take another 5 oz or so afterwards. Not sure why it didn't all take at once, using quart Lubriflow pump. Will check in another week, see if it will take another ounce or 2

Keep us posted. it is getting cold here in VA so my riding will slow. but this will be prime maintenance time. Still looking for a good brake upgrade option. Not paying $1000 for rotors and calipers.

Alpha Brake Brace and a good set of pads are the least expensive option vs rotors/calipers. This will yield a good improvement over stock. If you want to do track days and tend to drive very aggressive on the street then spend the $$ on rotors/calipers.

I do 1000+ miles on track per year. More if I had the time. :)

I run Lucas in my rear angle drive, it pours like syrup and is very hard to get in as using a standard syringe it is very hard to push in. How ever, it has quieted the gears so much I will not change back. It still howls when I let off the throttle but it is barely noticeable, if at all, in when cruising.

The rear angle drive seams to hold up well but as far as noise it is an engineering failure.

You can count me as another successful Lucas Oil Stabilizer user. I just finished my initial 500 mile service. I was having some pretty loud growling, mainly during deceleration, at about 30MPH and 10MPH. Drained the angle drive, and refilled it with 100% Lucas Oil Stabilizer (plus a little more extra in there by jacking up the drivers side). Also adjusted the belt tension and tracking. I can say I am 100% satisfied with the results, practically no angle drive noise anymore!

I believe that there is one good thing that has come out of all of this discussion about angle drive gear lube and that there have been some folks with positive results after changing, others have claimed no difference, but I do not believe that I have seen any negative reports, in other words, nobody has shared that their angle drive whine got worse after changing oil??
